April 2024 Council Candidates

On April 2, 2024, voters will elect three City Council candidates for a 4 year term. 

These are the candidates who have filed to run for City Council in the April 2, 2024 election. 

Jamie SquareJamie Hasemeier

Jamie Hasemeier has been an environmental advocate for 20 years, with experience in grassroots organizing and a dedication to collaboration. She served on the Webster Groves Sustainability Commission for many years, two of those as Chair. She earned a BS from Fontbonne University. 

Jamie and her husband chose Webster to raise their four children when they moved from Chicago ten years ago. Gathering her family and friends for fun is her favorite way to spend her free time. She also likes to grow food, garden, and visit museums.


Karen AlexanderKaren D. Alexander

Karen Alexander was  first elected to the City Council in 2020. She serves as the Council liaison for the City Plan Commission and the Parks & Recreation Commission.

For the past 38 years, Alexander has been engaged in Residential Real Estate Finance. Her current position is Senior Vice President, Independent Compliance Risk Manager. Currently employed by Citibank, N.A., she serves as a subject matter expert on Citi’s Compliance program consistently delivering compliance advice while supporting assigned functional areas, business lines, and products, providing guidance on rules, laws, regulations, and interpretation of internal policies and procedures. 

She is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), she was selected as a St. Louis Regional Commerce Business Diversity Fellow in 2020. Alexander received the Citibank Leadership in Excellence Award in 2015, was a recipient of the Mortgage Bankers Association Andrew Sheahan Leadership Award in 2008, and was a Coro Midwestern Women in Leadership Graduate in 2000. 

She received her MBA from Webster University and her bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. 

Alexander's parents moved to Webster Groves and built their family home in North Webster in 1964. She is a product of the Webster Groves School District, attending Douglass Elementary, Plymouth Jr. High, and graduating one year early in the top 25 percent of her class at Webster High School. While her first home was in Maplewood, where she lived for 19 years, in 2005 she was able to purchase her current home on the same street as her youth and family home in North Webster. 

Emerson SmithEmerson E. Smith

Emerson Smith was first appointed to the City Council in 2019 and elected in 2020.  He serves as the Council liaison to the Old Webster Business District Advisory Commission and the Police Community Engagement Board. 

Emerson has worked in the Credit Union industry for 45 years, including the St. Louis Teachers credit Union now St Louis Community Credit Union, and 33 years with the Anheuser Busch Employees Credit Union, now the Together Credit Union. Most recently he served as the VP of Operations. He is currently retired. 

He received many awards from the credit union industry. Upon retirement, Emerson received a Congressional Proclamation from Congressman William Lacy Clay thanking him for years of service in the credit union industry.

He received a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Phoenix University. and holds many designations from the credit union industry.

Emerson Smith has lived in Webster Groves for more than 39 years. He has served three terms on the Webster Groves Board of Education, Board of Adjustment for the City of Webster, and the Juvenile Conference Committee for the city of Webster Groves. He currently serves on the Board of the Webster Rock Hill Ministries and the North Webster Neighborhood Coalition. He has been married for 34 years to Paula and has two children, Mackenzie and Madison, who are graduates of the Webster Groves School System.
